In order to bring medical care to those areas with the greatest need and the least amount of existing resources, the Clinic’s initial focus is on the 24 counties within the Dioceses of Knoxville which are composed entirely of medically-underserved area, according to the federal Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). These counties of initial outreach include:
Bledsoe Fentress McMinn Rhea
Campbell Grainger Marion Roane
Carter Hancock Meigs Scott
Claiborne Hawkins Monroe Sequatchie
Cocke Johnson Morgan Unicoi
Cumberland Loudon Pickett Union
Patients can come from anywhere, but our focus is to locate in areas with the greatest amount of need and the least amount of existing resources.
If you are an existing group located in one of these counties and are interested in sponsoring the Clinic to come to you, you must be able to provide the following:
- A building for us to use. This building should have places for the patients to wait and bathrooms for them to use.
- A place for us to park. Must be able to accommodate a 40-foot straight truck for ingress and egress, 13 ½ foot overhead clearance, 3 feet of clearance on the driver’s side and 9 feet of clearance on the passenger side and be relatively level.
- Local volunteers who are willing to be Virtus trained and attend an Orientation in Knoxville. We can supplement with people from Knoxville and other areas, but having a few locals is important.
- Word of mouth advertising, as well as distributing fliers (that we can provide) and other means of getting the word out that we are coming.
Next, the group that wants to host us must invite us by contacting Sr. Mariana Koonce, RSM, MD at firstname.lastname@example.org or (865) 212-5570.
